MegaGardening for Ruby Roo

So I said to Else, I said, ‘Elsie I’ve got a plan.’ ‘What sort of a plan,’ said Elsie, like really suspicious. ‘A good plan,’ I said. Elsie didn’t say anything. ‘Well,’ I said. ‘Don’t you want to hear it?’ Elsie grunted. ‘Go on then,’ she said. Do you know what I’m saying, blood out of a stone.

‘We’re going to plant a garden,’ I said. ‘We’ve got a garden,’ Elsie said. ‘If you’d just let me finish, Elsie,’ I said. ‘We’re going to plantΒ a garden for Ruby Roo.’ Elsie just stared at me. ‘Listen,’ I said. ‘We’re going to plant all Ruby Roo’s favourite things. Lettuce and parsley and maybe some dill…’ ‘How do you know what Ruby Roo likes?’ said Elsie. ‘She’s a RABBIT,’ I said. ‘She likes lettuce. All rabbits like lettuce.’ ‘I don’t like lettuce, Elsie said. ‘Or not unless there’s nothing else.’ ‘But you’re not a rabbit, are you?’ I said. Honestly, head brick wall.

‘So then what?’ said Elsie. ‘So then we wait. And when Ruby Roo hears about our garden, she’ll sneak in and try to steal our lettuce, and then…’ ‘Then what?’ said Elsie. ‘We chase her! Do I have to spell everything out?’ I said. ‘We chase her and we tell her to stop posting provocative videos, or else…’ ‘Or else what?’…’Just or else,’ I said…. ‘Or else what?’…. ‘Just or else.’…. and we carried on like that for a bit.

Well Elsie was doubtful to put it mildly. ‘It sounds like a lot of work,’ she said. ‘And Ruby Roo might not even come.’ ‘Course she will,’ I said. ‘But even if she doesn’t. Other rabbits will come, won’t they. Β Think of it Elsie, thousands of rabbits. What’s the point you and me chasing them, when all we need to do is plant a salad bar and wait?’ Well that convinced her, like I knew it would, the thought of lying in the sun and having the rabbits come to her. Minimum effort,Β maximum reward; that’s Elsie Pie all over.

So we got Mum to take us to the garden centre and we chose all the plants that rabbits like, except Mum keptΒ trying to sneak in extra stuff to get us to plant them for her too. ‘Are you sure rabbits like sweet peas?’ I asked her. ‘Positive,’ she said.

Are you sure rabbits like sweet peas?’ I asked her.

Then came all the digging and planting and that was hard work, and guess who did it.

But finally the job was done. Look Ruby Roo, how d’you fancy some lettuce?

Look Ruby Roo, how d’you fancy some lettuce?

And I took a well-earned rest from my labours.

It’s alright, Elsie, you can wake up now. Job’s done!

  2. Oh. My. Goodness!!!!! I’m laughing so hard! I can’t believe how Elsie is letting the Tripawd do all the work only to lie down in the hole that Meg dug! πŸ™‚ Nice work and share ethics!
And you’re saying Manni’s got ME on toast? Meg’s biting in your newly bought plants and lies in the newly planted flower bed (ok, it has bed in its name, I get it)! LOL πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
Push-over, Clare, that’s what we are!!
If Manni and Meg ever got together the world as we know it would end, I guarantee it.
When I tend to the garden (not often) Manni has a tendency to come over, look at the flowers next to me and -no kidding- bites off the blossom only to spit it out. The two of them together would be mayhem! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
Maybe we should get them together to babysit Elsie when the two of us are gone! LOL!! πŸ™‚ (sorry Else!!)

Oh, and Meg? Can I have a word?
YOU LEAVE WOOBY WOO ALONE YOU HEAR?? (Also: she might be able to kick your butt, determined as she is. just saying…)

  3. OMD those two! I can tell Elsie sees herself as supervisor as Meg does all the work lol. Got an impressive shot of Meg’s bloomers in the video too! My they are quite something aren’t they? All that’s left to do is wait for Ruby Roo or some of her cousins to show up. Meg you do get the most brilliant ideas. Better hope Ruby Roo doesn’t know how to work the Internet or your gigs up!!

  4. OMG … I cannot stand all this cuteness!!! I love watching Meg dig and dig and dig!!! And then the muddy face. So adorable and how she nips at the plants.

And then it appears Elsie plops right in the place Meg had dug?! I just love it!!

Such a great job and a lovely garden to boot!

  6. OH MEG!!! You are absolutely HILARIOUS!!!! πŸ™‚ I loooove reading all about how this plan for a garden to “catch” RubyRoo came about! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

BRILLIANT WELL ORCHESTRATED PLAN!!!! πŸ™‚ Your creativity and determination when it comes to getting RubyRoo and her relatives to your garden is unparalleled! πŸ™‚

THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR SHARING THE PLANTING OF YOUR SALAD BAR WITH US!! πŸ™‚ A touch if Ranch dressing and you might attract a few turtles too! And they move really slowly, so catching them shoukd be a piece of cake! πŸ™‚

HUGS AND HUGS AND MORE HUGS! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

  7. Awesome, just awesome!
I love how Meg uses her ears to help her dig- flap, flap, flap.
I’m afraid you are giving Elly ideas… she is looking up what gophers eat!

  8. DaBunny DaBear HQ is now madly chunneling under the Atlantic!!!

Ruby Roo, The Unflappable, seems to have accessed a certain SuperCelebrityDog Blog on Da Internet while all other family members were whiling their time away impersonating pancakes.

It is, indeed, slightly unfortunate that the formerly Luddite Ruby Roo now has access to the WORLD. I even heard her giggling as she tap hop tapped away at the iBunnyPad…her whiskers read, ” NATIONS WILL FALL!!!”

Somehow packages started arriving at DaBear HQ at a furious pace…as soon as one DaBear woofled away the UPS horror, FedEx would arrive with another and the other DaBear would woofle. This went on interminably.

Garden shovels, Monty Python and the Holy Grail posters, EASTER BUNNY suits, dog bones, liverwurst, doggles, and, oddly, a book titled How to Dig FASTER Under the Atlantic for Dummies ( she gave this to DaBears…)…

Really, I had to put my foot down and use her ENTIRE name…RUBY ROO DABINKIE DABEAR!!! She just gave me the COTTONTAIL and continued to tap and hop and tap and hop and wiggle Da Whiskers.

And then, just like that, Wooby Woo and DaBears went on the lam…

All of which is to say…Clare, MegAStar, and Miss Elsie Pie, well played dames, well played!!!

This truly is the absolute BRILLIANT but cautionary tale I will read to them during bed checks IF they return…

WELL PLAYED, DAME OF BRILLIANCE CLARE AND GRAND DAME MEGASTAR AND SUPPORTING DAME MISS ELSIE PIE!!!

Absolute tip of the Paws and chuffles all around!

  9. OMG it’s Tripawd Olympic Gardening! Work that paw girlfriend, you are amazing!

(P.S. this is the BEST post EVER Clare, love it!)
